Sheila Sweeney, a native of St. Louis, has championed the St. Louis Economic Development Partnership organization for more than two decades. In 2013, she chaired the committee to form the Partnership and was the first chair of its board. She also served as chair of the board of directors for the organization’s predecessor (St. Louis County Economic Council). While chairman of the Economic Council, she helped drive developments and programs such as Northpark, River City Casino & Hotel, Helix Center Biotech Incubator, STLVentureWorks and St. Louis Accelerate Challenge.
She has decisively positioned the organization for its next generation of growth, executing a strong vision that is delivering results today while positioning the Partnership and St. Louis for future progress. Sweeney also served as chair of St. Louis County Port Authority, an affiliate of the Partnership. She was a key proponent for the Community Reinvestment Fund, a nationally recognized grant program. To date, the fund has invested more than $50 million, driving strategic development throughout St. Louis. As principle of SM Sweeney & Company, Sweeney specialized in transactions for property assemblage and commercial and industrial development for private investors, corporations and individuals.
Established in 2013, St. Louis Economic Development Partnership brings together the economic development agencies from St. Louis County and the City of St. Louis to drive growth, generate prosperity and catalyze investment throughout the region. The Partnership provides a broad range of services, including business expansion and retention, entrepreneurial support (financing and incubators), real estate and community development and international trade support through World Trade Center St. Louis.
